mining valuations and municipal property rates
The Firm has been involved in Valuation Appeal Board matters over an extensive period of time, ranging from the utilization of the former Provincial Rating Ordinances to the implementation of the Municipal Property Rates Act. A specialist team, involving various expert valuers, has been compiled to assist as expert witnesses assisting municipalities in the enforcement of the Municipal Property Rates Act and in particular dealing with objections and appeal proceedings in Valuation Appeal Board matters. This includes the valuation of commercial, industrial, residential, public service infrastructure and particularly mining properties.
The Firm has also been successfully involved in special submissions to the Portfolio Committee of Local Government in Parliament relating to particular amendments to the Municipal Property Rates Act, protecting the interests of Local Government in general.
In respect of the recovery of property rates following the implementation of general valuation rolls, the Firm has successfully ensured such recovery generating very substantial additional rates income for various municipalities.
